People have made money doing web design but here’s the reality associated with a lot of Web Designers. A high percentage of them are "self taught" designers due to lack of funds to hire “real” ones and the massive majority of them may know what looks good or that they know how it should be built does NOT mean that they can provide features that will work.

Having a fancy website does NOT make money. It's what you do with your site that makes money! I’ve seen ugly sites that make plenty of money because they know how to write good copy, they know techniques that bring in profit with email campaigns, PPC campaigns, etc. Advertising is where the money comes in from and knowing necessary techniques is MUCH more important than having a cool website.

Web Designers would not be web designers alone if they knew how to APPLY proven strategies/techniques along with their cool sites. A guy/girl can make good money doing this and as a "newbie", you will learn to build sites so put that knowledge to work for you and charge others to let you build their site for them. That's one of the things that I do.
