Vending
Vending machines are a legitimate business opportunity. If you purchase your own machines, you are responsible for the repairs and maintenance of the machines. One way to get around this potentially is to rent the soda machines (i.e. Coke and Pepsi) and then THEY are responsible for the repairs.
You can buy machines new or used. The new ones come with a 1 year warranty and used one usually have a 90 day warranty. You can buy the bare bones from the manufacturer as well. They will come with no coin mechanisms and/or money validaters and then just install them yourself.
I asked Gary Lewis of Snac - Man Vending in Oregon about these questions as an owner and operator.
Which do you do and why and this is what he had to say....
"Well, it varies, depending on what you are after, what kind of account the machine is going into, how much money you have to spend, etc. There are a lot of variables. For instance, when I first started in 1990, I purchased ALL BRAND NEW machines. I am still running with those same machines. The cost of $2800 per snack machine, $2500 for a pop machine, $7500 for a cold food machine all add up rather quickly. So now I am going with refurbished equipment IF I need to buy any as I can get them for about half price."
You would have to figure out which way works best for you and run with it. I don't think there is a sure fire method here. I also believe that no matter how you go about it, you'd better be prepared to operate this business! If you get an unprofitable location, you will lose your behind here. Naturally, how you run and operate your business is a variable as well.
Gary is testimony that this business CAN BE lucrative though. He's been doing it for a long time and is still going strong! Thanks Gary, for your input!
There are many pages of fraudulent vending machines opps and/or companies and usually, use your better judgment and research and exercise extreme caution if/when choosing this business and its location.
